J-Willz – Artist / Songwriter…
J-Willz , also known as “Golden Child Willz,” is an Atlanta-born, Charlottesville-raised recording artist and songwriter who has been building records since the age of 12. What started as teenage recordings turned into a focused pursuit of rap, melody, structure, and songwriting. By 2011, he was fully recording and engineering himself, releasing music rapidly and sharpening his craft from the ground up. The pen and the flow have always been the foundation.
Since his 2009 debut mixtape Self Isolation on DatPiff, followed by projects including Virginia’s Golden Child, Virginia’s Golden Child Vol. 2, Do This Right From Home, Y.B.E, Lee Willz, Lee Willz 2, and Raw Gold. Willz has consistently evolved while keeping his foot on the gas. He built his fanbase the grassroots way — selling mixtapes hand-to-hand, connecting directly with supporters, and creating viral freestyle moments on social media that expanded his reach beyond Virginia, including one of his freestyles posted on the Shade Room. His single “By Any Means” gained major radio play through Virginia Airways, proving his records could move in the streets, online, and on air.
Throughout his career, Willz has been a powerful songwriter. From his debut mixtape forward, whenever an R&B artist featured on his records, most likely he wrote every word for them. That lane continued to grow, leading to opportunities to work with and turn in records for artists such as Cardi B, Latto, Lebra Jolie, City Girls, Kevo Money, Torion, Bobby Fishscale, and more. His writing credits include Moriah Mills (“Y.D.C”), Nick Lavelle (“Fantasy”), and Bairi (“Way Too Much”), along with sessions with Luh Kel and others. He is the creator of Inky Johnson’s official intro for the Serendipity podcast, and most recently, alongside his fellow VA native producer Kino Beats, landed a major placement as co-creator of the official intro song for the mobile video game One State, expanding his reach into global gaming audiences.
In 2018, an invite from Trauma Tone brought Willz into Patchwerk Recording Studios in Atlanta. He initially stepped in for a free internship as a graphic designer on the marketing team with Cymande Russle and Osman Bangura, eventually becoming Senior Graphic Designer — but he has always been an artist first. During his time there, he built relationships & sat in sessions with industry power players, including Zaytoven, Mr. Hanky, Justice League, Key Wayne, Monica, Missy Elliott, and many more. Being inside those rooms sharpened his pen, expanded his network, and ultimately positioned him to further his music career.
Driven by work ethic and adaptability, Willz approaches every opportunity with one mindset: whatever the mission is, whatever the vibe is, whoever the artist — let’s get it done. He’s here to put numbers on the board, deliver records that resonate, and build something that lasts the test of time.
